In the name Vierwaldstatter See also known as the Lake of the Four Forest Cantons, the four forest cantons are Uri, Schwyz, Unterwalden, and Lucerne. The first three are the original cantons of the first Swiss federation. Unterwalden is divided into Obwalden and Nidwalden.
