In 1910, Sarala Devi Chaudhurani founded India’s first women’s organisation, Bharat Stree Mahamandal. The primary goal of the organisation was to promote female education. Sarala Devi’s mother, Swarnakumari Devi was a Bengali writer and the elder sister of Rabindranath Tagore.
