The cauliflower known as ‘Gobi’ in Hindi, is popular throughout India, especially its dishes, Aloo Gobi, Gobi Paratha or Gobi Manchurian. However, this vegetable is not native to India and it was brought over from England in 1822 by Dr. Jemson. Its instant popularity paved the way for local seeds and the development of Indian cauliflower. The initial varieties were Early and Main crop Patna and Early and Main Crop Benaras.
