In the heart of a divided society, ‘The Shameless’ unfolds as a poignant narrative of forbidden love and resilient spirit. Directed by renowned Bulgarian filmmaker Konstantin Bojanov, the film delves into the lives of two women fighting against the shackles imposed upon them by tradition and circumstance.
Renuka, portrayed by Anasuya Sengupta, is a woman who flees from a brothel in Delhi in the middle of the night. She changes her identity and goes into hiding in a community of sex workers in northern India.
Devika, played by Omara Shetty, is a young wannabe rapper. However, she is condemned to continue the tradition of her caste as a prostitute – a ‘devdasi’.
The two women meet. As the plot thickens, Renuka and Devika’s connection blossoms into a tender romance, complicated by societal and familial constraints.
In a world where their relationship is deemed unacceptable, the duo faces insurmountable obstacles, pushing them to make unimaginable sacrifices. When their situation leaves them no choice, murder becomes a means of defence.
